What do we cover?


Cultural Studies is an interdisciplinary field concerned with vital issues such as identities, power, consumption, commodities, relationships between the regional and the national, relationships between the national and the global, relationships between the popular and the national and contemporary culture, the workings of cultural power, the circulation, effects and meanings of culture in personal and political terms.

CASII will offer courses/research projects in the following areas of Cultural Studies Culture and Gender Ethnography Folklore Marriage and the Family Medical Anthropology Methods of Anthropological Research

Race and Ethnicity Religion and Society Social and Cultural Change Additionally, CASII has undertaken Research Projects in the following areas:

1. The Rediscovery of India: A Re-thinking and Repossession through Theatre and Cinema by the Centre of Advanced Studies in India & the University of Cologne, Germany

2. Women and Ageing in Indian Culture & Society by the Centre of Advanced Studies in India & the University of Dusseldorf, Germany

3. Research Project on Pornography and Violence against Women by the Centre of Advanced Studies in India
